Atkinson & Block still a chance for 2010 WRC |

Chris Atkinson’s chances of contesting the 2010 World Rally Championship are still alive and well, despite the Queenslander having only contested one round of the 2009 WRC.
Atkinson and American star, Ken Block, are working hard on a program that would see them run a two car Ford Focus team with backing from Monster Energy Drinks.
“We are still negotiating all contracts,” Ken Block told RallySport Magazine today.
“We should have everything wrapped up and announced in early January.”
Block has a huge worldwide following after his series of ‘gymkhana’ videos that have had a massive appeal on YouTube.
Atkinson, meanwhile, spent three years with the Subaru World Rally Team before they withdrew from the WRC last December. He contested Rally Ireland this year in a factory-prepared Citroen C4 WRC, but that was the only round of the championship he contested.
Block and Atkinson are good mates and their inclusion in the WRC in M-Sport Fords would be a real plus for a championship lacking in manufacturer support. Earlier this year they showed their combined talents driving Block’s Ford Escort – which was once again shown to the world on YouTube.
Australian rally fans are hoping that the new year brings good news for our most famous WRC export.
